Data retention

Telemetry you send to Osuite is kept hot and searchable for a retention window, after which it is aged out or moved to cheaper long-term storage. Retention can differ by signal — traces, logs, and metrics are stored and indexed differently, so each has its own retention behaviour.

This page describes how retention works. The exact retention windows that apply to your account are shown in the Osuite UI, since they depend on your plan and region.

Where to find your retention settings

Your account’s current retention windows are visible in the Osuite UI.

Log retention and archival

Log retention is configurable. On enterprise plans, Osuite can additionally sync logs to your own S3-compatible storage for long-term analysis without keeping them hot in the search index — this is set up by the Osuite team on request. See Logs pipelines for the details.

Trace and metric retention

Section titled “Trace and metric retention”

Traces and metrics are each retained for their own window before they are aged out. The concept is the same as for logs — recent data stays hot and searchable, and older data falls out of retention — but the exact windows are shown in your account rather than fixed here.
